Spokane: Flags Lowered for Coeur d'Alene Fire Department and Kootenai County Fire and Rescue

~ Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown has ordered all flags at City facilities to be lowered to half-staff in honor of the two firefighters who lost their lives in an ambush attack. The fallen firefighters, one from the Coeur d'Alene Fire Department and the other from Kootenai County Fire and Rescue, were responding to a brush fire on Canfield Mountain when they were ambushed on June 29, 2025.

In a statement released by Erin Hut, Communications Director for Spokane City, Mayor Brown expressed her condolences to the families of the fallen firefighters and the entire community of Coeur d'Alene. She also extended her support and solidarity as they grieve and heal from this tragic event.

The names of the firefighters have not been released yet, but it is reported that one was killed instantly while the other succumbed to injuries later. The third firefighter was injured in the attack but is expected to recover.

The City of Spokane joins in mourning with Coeur d'Alene and stands united in honoring these brave individuals who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving their community.
