South Bend: City Announces Traffic Alerts Starting Monday, March 30

March 27, 2026 ~ Starting Monday, March 30, the City of South Bend will experience some traffic disruptions due to ongoing construction and maintenance work. The Department of Public Works has announced that the eastbound lane of Colfax Avenue, from Niles Avenue to Hill Street, will be closed for water and sewer line work. This closure is expected to last until Friday, April 3, weather permitting.
To accommodate this closure, a detour route has been established via LaSalle Avenue through Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard or Eddy Street. Motorists are advised to plan their routes accordingly and expect delays in the affected area.

In addition, starting on the same day, Madison Street between Michigan and Main streets will also be closed for construction on the Madison Lifestyle District Project. This closure is expected to last until December 31, 2027.
The detour route for this closure is also via LaSalle Avenue through Main or Michigan streets. The Department of Public Works urges drivers to use caution and follow all posted signs while traveling in these areas.
