South Bend: City Announces Traffic Alerts Starting Monday, June 29

June 26, 2026 ~ The City of South Bend Department of Public Works has announced that there will be some traffic alerts in the city starting Monday, June 29. These alerts are subject to weather conditions.

One of the affected areas will be the intersection of Madison Street and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, which will be closed for water and sewer connection work. This closure is necessary for the development of the Madison Lifestyle District.

In addition, Michigan Street between Monroe and South streets will also be closed for water and sewer connection work. This closure is related to the construction of The Monreaux apartment complex and the Milkweed Commons developments.

The detour route for both closures will be Main Street. However, Main Street between LaSalle Avenue and Marion Street is expected to reopen by the end of today, Friday, June 26.

These closures are expected to last until Friday, July 17, again depending on weather conditions. Drivers are advised to plan their routes accordingly during this time period.
