South Bend: City Accepting Applications for 2026 Lamppost Lighting Program

May 6, 2026 ~ The City of South Bend is offering a new program to assist homeowners with lighting enhancements in their neighborhoods. The 2026 Lamppost Lighting Program, run by the Department of Public Works, aims to provide easy self-install, solar-powered lampposts for residential front yards. Homeowners within the city limits are eligible to apply for the cost-share program, which has selected four target areas based on income, number of vacant lots, and a need for lighting. Those living in the target areas will only have to pay $50 towards the total cost, while those outside will pay $250. The deadline to apply is Friday, June 5 and more information can be found on the city's website at southbendin.gov/lamppost.
