She Fought for Justice for Others. Now She Needs It Herself

Rezul News/10716070
AUGUSTA, Maine - Rezul -- Gina Turcotte, Paralegal, Mother and Grandmother, Fights Wage Theft, Career Sabotage, and Employer Retaliation

Maine, USA –
Gina Turcotte, 56, a single mom, grandmother, and paralegal, has launched a powerful campaign: "I Want to Work But I Can't Because He Won't Let Me". (link below)

After nearly five years working 60–100 hours a week as a remote paralegal for Maine attorney Jed Davis, Turcotte says she was forced out, unpaid, and blacklisted from the legal field.

"I don't want pity. I don't want welfare. I want to work. But right now, I can't."

She was hired in 2019 without a degree, based on decades of self-taught legal experience. Her work was billed at $95–$150/hour, but she earned just $20–$27/hour, with no benefits or taxes paid. Though Davis made over $1.4M from her work, she received $233K — and says he still owes her $33,112 in overtime.

After completing high-stakes legal work in 2023, Davis changed billing rules, cut her pay, and shorted her final three paychecks. She resigned in August, left unable to pay bills.

In March 2025, the IRS confirmed she was misclassified as a contractor. In May, she sued Davis for wage theft, retaliation, and career sabotage. Despite submitting IRS findings, billing records, and affidavits, Davis has filed delays but no denials.

Blacklisted From Her Career

Between 2023–2025, Gina applied to 100+ jobs. In March 2025, she got an offer — $30/hr, full benefits — but it was withdrawn after the employer contacted Davis. Though he wrote her a glowing 2022 reference, he refused to confirm it.

Now, she can't get hired — because he won't verify her experience.

Fighting Just to Survive
  • Lives on $292/month in food stamps
  • Earns $80–$100/day delivering groceries in a failing car
  • Owes $25K to her cousin
  • Faces eviction if $800/month rent isn't paid

She's asking for $10,000 to cover 2–3 months of rent, food, utilities, and car repairs — just long enough to hold on until the court rules.

"I've worked through poverty, hunger, and eviction. I've never asked for help. Until now."

This isn't a plea for charity — it's a fight for justice and survival.

How to Help
"I still believe one person — backed by strangers and the truth — can win."
