Paul James Digital rebuilds pet-friendly holiday directory with smarter data management
Rezul News/10740360
A complete rebuild of Where pets are welcome replaced an outdated Joomla platform with a simpler system designed to manage thousands of holiday listings, improve administration and reduce running costs.
BEWDLEY, U.K. - Rezul -- Paul James Digital has completed a complete rebuild of Where pets are welcome, a UK and Ireland pet-friendly holiday home directory.
The original platform had been offline for several years. The previous website was built using Joomla with a collection of paid plugins that had become increasingly difficult and expensive to maintain.
After reviewing the archived website, the decision was made to rebuild the platform from the ground up. The new system was designed to reduce administration, lower running costs and create a simpler platform that could be managed more effectively.
The rebuilt website launched with almost 30,000 holiday property listings. Compared with the previous setup, managing the platform is significantly easier, with a system designed around the way the business actually operates.

A key part of the rebuild was creating a custom data management system to handle complex affiliate feeds. Instead of manually managing individual property records, complete CSV files can be uploaded and processed automatically, allowing the platform to identify and display accommodation that is relevant to Where pets are welcome.
The rebuild also addressed several challenges with third-party property data. Some feeds provided limited property descriptions, so the system was developed to create useful information from the available data. Address information was also inconsistent, with some properties using broad locations or inaccurate regional information.
Using geolocation data, each property was mapped to accurate locations including towns, counties, National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty where applicable. This ensures properties are positioned correctly and helps visitors find suitable accommodation more easily.

Two months after launch, Where pets are welcome continues to show positive search performance, with Google rankings holding steady and the platform receiving a growing stream of visitors and booking referrals.
"Where pets are welcome was a great example of where starting again made more sense than continuing to maintain an outdated platform," said Paul James, founder of Paul James Digital.
"The challenge was not simply creating a new website. It was building a platform that could handle real-world data, reduce ongoing management and make the whole process easier."
Where pets are welcome helps pet owners discover holiday accommodation across the UK and Ireland where their pets are genuinely welcome.
The platform was created by Paul James Digital, an independent digital consultancy based in Bewdley, Worcestershire.
