Thousands of houses stand empty in many Canadian cites. A 2016 census reported in Vancouver alone there were over 25,000 unoccupied homes. Local governments are imposing the Empty Home Tax on homeowners of vacant properties. "The ultimate goal is to add more pressure on empty homes to be filled," Mayor Kennedy Stewart announced in a Nov. 27 press release.
