Open House Jerusalem celebrates 20 years with free tours offering visitors behind-the-scenes access across the city

ATLANTA - Rezul -- Visitors will have rare access to some of Jerusalem's most fascinating buildings and spaces as Open House Jerusalem celebrates its 20th year with free tours and special experiences across the city.

The annual urban architecture festival takes place October 15–17 and October 22–24, offering visitors an opportunity to experience Jerusalem through sites that tell the story of the city's past, present and future.

One of this year's highlights is a unique opportunity to visit the Tiferet Israel Synagogue in the Jewish Quarter of Jerusalem's Old City just before restoration and construction work is completed and the site opens to the public. Visitors will also have an opportunity to tour the complex with architect Carlos Prus, who is overseeing the project.

Open House Jerusalem is inspired by Open House Worldwide, architecture festivals held in cities including London, New York, Barcelona, Melbourne, Rome and Dublin.

Other featured sites include the recently renovated art garden at the Israel Museum, designed by sculptor Isamu Noguchi; the new Knesset Museum at Beit Froumine; the underground Kishle at the Tower of David; the National Library building; the Supreme Court; and the new David and Fela Shapell Family Collections Center at Yad Vashem.

The festival also features tours of private homes, sites highlighting Jerusalem's history and communities, and experiences focused on art, literature, ecology and urban nature. Smartphone architectural photography and green-roof gardening workshops will also be offered.

"Jerusalem is a city that is constantly being built and renewed, yet it also zealously preserves its layers of memory, heritage and identity," said Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion. "The Open House festival opens up to the public the Jerusalem behind the facades."

"Open House Jerusalem gives visitors a chance to get behind the scenes and experience a side of the city they might not otherwise see," said Lorin Maugery, Consul Director for the Israel Ministry of Tourism, United States Southern Region. "It's a wonderful way to discover Jerusalem."

All Open House Jerusalem tours are free of charge.
