Rezul News/10702428
WASHINGTON, May 16, 2025 ~ NASA astronauts Nichole Ayers and Takuya Onishi, from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), will be connecting with middle and high school students from New York and Ohio in two separate events. The astronauts will be answering prerecorded questions submitted by the students while aboard the International Space Station.
The first event, scheduled for Tuesday, May 20 at 10:20 a.m. EDT, will include students from Long Beach Middle School in Lido Beach, New York. Media interested in covering this event must RSVP by 5 p.m. on Monday, May 19 to Christi Tursi at 516-771-3960.
The second event will take place on Friday, May 23 at 11 a.m. EDT with students from Vermilion High School in Vermilion, Ohio. Media interested in covering this event must RSVP by 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 22 to Jennifer Bengele at 440-479-7783.
Both events can be watched live on NASA's STEM YouTube Channel and will last approximately 20 minutes each.

Long Beach Middle School is hosting the event for students in grades 6 through 8 with the goal of bridging gaps in space sciences and promoting teaching and learning in classrooms. Similarly, Vermilion High School is hosting the event for students in grades 9 through 12 to increase interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics career pathways.
For over two decades, astronauts have been living and working aboard the International Space Station conducting research and testing technologies that benefit people on Earth. They communicate with NASA's Mission Control Center in Houston through SCaN's Near Space Network around the clock.
The research and technology investigations taking place aboard the space station not only benefit people on Earth but also lay the foundation for future missions. As part of NASA's Artemis campaign, which aims to send astronauts back to the Moon to prepare for future human exploration of Mars, these events will inspire the next generation of explorers and ensure the United States remains a leader in space exploration and discovery.
Videos of astronauts aboard the space station can be found on NASA's website at https://www.nasa.gov/stemonstation.
