Naperville: Structure Fire in the 1600 Block of Country Lakes Drive
Rezul News/10706827
NAPERVILLE, Ill. ~ Naperville, Illinois - On Monday, June 30, at 9:56 a.m., the Naperville Emergency Communications Center (ECC) received a call regarding a stove fire at a residence in the 1600 block of Country Lakes Drive. In response, ECC immediately dispatched a full-still assignment to the reported location. However, upon receiving additional information while en route, the incident was upgraded to a general alarm assignment.
A general alarm assignment typically consists of three engines, two ladder trucks, one heavy rescue squad, two medic units and two battalion commanders. At 10 a.m., Naperville Police Department (NPD) arrived on the scene and reported heavy smoke coming from a second-floor unit. NPD officers quickly took action by evacuating the building and clearing several units below the fire unit.
Despite their efforts to extinguish the fire with fire extinguishers, NPD officers were unable to do so due to heavy smoke conditions. As a result, both officers were evaluated for possible smoke inhalation but did not require further medical attention.

Upon arrival of the first responding companies from the Naperville Fire Department (NFD), they conducted a thorough survey of the structure and provided an on-scene report. They also established command and began fire operations. The NFD found that the fire originated in a second-floor unit of the complex and immediately began suppression efforts.
Within 15 minutes of arrival, firefighters were able to fully extinguish the fire by deploying a hose line to its source. However, they remained on scene for an additional 90 minutes to assist with building maintenance and conduct overhaul operations.
The NFD received assistance from both NPD and the City of Naperville's Transportation and Engineering Department during this incident. After investigation, it was determined that cooking was the cause of the fire which resulted in an estimated $100,000 worth of damages to both the unit and complex.
Fortunately, there were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters. However, the building complex, including the unit of origin and three other units, are currently considered uninhabitable. The NFD reminds residents to always exercise caution while cooking to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
