Naperville Police Arrest Driver of Stolen Vehicle

~ Naperville Police have arrested a 19-year-old man, identified as Ethan M. Christiansen, on Monday, Feb. 2 for allegedly being in possession of a stolen vehicle. The arrest was made following a report of multiple vehicle burglaries and a stolen 2007 Honda Civic on Sunday, Feb. 1.

According to the press release issued by the Naperville Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 900 block of N. Brainard Street after receiving reports of overnight vehicle burglaries and a stolen Honda Civic. The following day, at approximately 2:30 p.m., the stolen vehicle was detected by license plate reader technology and followed into the Naperville area by an Illinois State Police trooper.

Upon arrival in the area, Naperville Police attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver fled on foot. After a short pursuit, officers were able to apprehend Christiansen in the 800 block of N. Brainard Street. During his arrest, Christiansen allegedly resisted and battered an officer.

Further investigation led to the discovery of a white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine and pills that tested positive for methamphetamine in Christiansen's possession. He has been charged with aggravated battery, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, possession of methamphetamine, resisting arrest, and possession of controlled substances (cocaine).

Naperville Police Chief Jason Arres commended the quick coordination and professionalism displayed by both Illinois State Police and Naperville officers during this incident. He also emphasized the importance of strong partnerships and technology in keeping communities safe.

Chief Arres stated that crimes involving stolen vehicles, drug possession, and violence against officers are taken very seriously by the Naperville Police Department and they will continue to work diligently to hold offenders accountable.

The investigation into the motor vehicle burglaries is ongoing. The Naperville Police would like to remind both the public and news media that charges are merely accusations and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
