Mesa Offers Christmas Tree Recycling During and After the Holiday Season
Rezul News/10723781
~ As the holiday season comes to a close, residents of Mesa are being encouraged to give their Christmas trees a second life through the city's Christmas Tree Recycling Program. The program, which aims to reduce waste and promote sustainability, offers five convenient drop-off locations for live, non-artificial trees.
According to the City of Mesa's press release, the recycling sites will be open until January 19th at the following locations: Dobson Ranch on 2363 S. Dobson Road, Fitch Park Playground on 261 E. 8th St., East Mesa Service Center on 6935 E. Decatur St., Mountain View Park on 845 N. Lindsay Road, and Superstition Springs Substation on 2430 E. Ellsworth Road.
Residents are reminded to remove all lights, ornaments, stands, tinsel, flocking or other decorations from their trees before dropping them off at the designated sites. It is also important to note that trees should not be left outside of the fenced enclosures and that the sites are open 24/7 for drop-off.
In addition to promoting tree recycling, the City of Mesa is also encouraging residents to recycle properly this holiday season. Ornaments, light strands and artificial trees should not be placed in Mesa's blue recycling barrels as they are considered contaminants and can negatively impact the city's recycling program. To find out what items are accepted in Mesa's recycling program, residents can use the Recycle Right Wizard online search tool available at mesarecycles.org.

For those who may have missed the opportunity to recycle their tree through this program, there are other disposal options available. Small trees that fit inside a green yard waste barrel with the lid closed can be disposed of in that manner. Curbside bulk pickup is also an option for a nominal fee by calling 480-644-6789 to schedule.
For those looking to donate their live potted trees (five feet or taller), the City of Mesa offers the option to donate them for planting in Mesa parks. Residents are asked to call 480-644-7529 or 480-644-4800 before dropping off their potted trees.
For hazardous materials such as strings of lights, the Household Hazardous Materials Facility is available for proper disposal. Residents can learn more about what is accepted and the facility's hours by visiting Household Hazardous Materials - City of Mesa.
The City of Mesa hopes that by recycling their Christmas trees, residents can help give them a new purpose as mulch, compost, or even part of a future park. As the saying goes, "one man's trash is another man's treasure," and with a little love and effort, even Charlie Brown's scraggly tree found new purpose. Let's keep the spirit of giving alive by recycling our trees and promoting sustainability in our community.
