~ Mesa Electric Utility Launches Smart Peaks Program to Reduce Energy Demand and Lower Costs for Customers
Mesa, AZ- Mesa Electric Utility has announced the launch of their new program, Smart Peaks, aimed at helping customers cut their electricity use during peak demand periods while also improving the reliability of the power grid. The program is open to both commercial and residential electric customers within Mesa's service area.
According to Deb Ferraro, Mesa Energy Resources Coordinator, Smart Peaks will play a crucial role in reducing energy demand during the hot summer months when electricity needs are at their highest. "By participating in this program, customers not only help stabilize the grid but can also benefit from lower costs of purchased power during times of high demand," she stated.
Participants in the program will be required to take part in up to 12 brief conservation events between May 1 and September 30. During these events, smart thermostats connected to central air conditioning systems will be adjusted for a few hours when electricity demand and costs are at their peak.

To be eligible for the program, customers must have a qualifying smart thermostat connected to their central air conditioning system and a good-standing account with Mesa utility. The thermostat must also be internet-connected. However, participants have the option to opt out of any conservation event by simply adjusting their thermostat.
In addition to contributing towards a more sustainable energy future, participants will also receive a $100 digital gift card in their first year of enrollment- $50 upon signing up for Smart Peaks and another $50 after the summer season. They will continue to receive an annual $50 gift card for each additional year they remain enrolled, even if they choose to opt out of some conservation events.
Interested Mesa electric customers can learn more about the program's eligibility criteria, view compatible thermostats and enroll at mesaaz.gov/smartpeaks. With Smart Peaks, Mesa Electric Utility is taking a proactive step towards promoting energy efficiency and reducing costs for its customers.
