Program Will Provide Nutrition and Relief for Seniors Facing the Loss of SNAP Benefits

PLANTATION, Fla. - Rezul -- In response to the upcoming reduction of SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits on November 1st, Meals on Wheels South Florida is proud to announce the launch of its new initiative, the Senior Snap Relief Program. This program aims to provide vital meal support to seniors who will experience a loss of SNAP benefits, ensuring they continue to receive nutritious, ready-to-eat meals.

Senior Snap Relief will provide eligible seniors with four weeks of meals, including two deliveries containing 14 dinners and 14 shelf-stable breakfast items. The goal of the program is to ensure that no senior goes hungry during this transition period.

Eligibility and Application Process:
To qualify for Senior Snap Relief, applicants must meet the same criteria as the regular Meals on Wheels South Florida program, with the added requirement of submitting a document confirming they received SNAP benefits. The program is designed to support seniors facing food insecurity due to the loss of their benefits, starting on November 1st.

"We recognize the significant impact the SNAP cuts will have on many of our most vulnerable senior neighbors," said Wendy Bourgault, Executive Director of Meals on Wheels South Florida. "Our goal with Senior Snap Relief is to provide immediate assistance to help our seniors continue to receive the nutrition they need while they navigate this challenging time."

How to Apply:
Seniors who meet the criteria can apply for Senior Snap Relief by visiting mowsoflo.org/seniorsnaprelief or calling 954.714.6920. Those interested will need to submit a copy of their SNAP eligibility notice along with their application.

Meals on Wheels South Florida encourages all eligible seniors to apply as soon as possible to ensure they receive the support they need before SNAP benefits are reduced.  Meals on Wheels South Florida is entirely donor-funded; therefore, it relies on the generosity of those with resources to support seniors in need.
