Madison Arts Commission and Monona Terrace Announce Call for Art for Rooftop and Olin Terrace
Rezul News/10726891
~ The Madison Arts Commission is calling all artists to submit their work for the 2026 Art on the Rooftop exhibition at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center. This free sculpture exhibition, held on the rooftop gardens of the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed facility, aims to showcase the beauty of both the gardens and the center itself.
The commission, in collaboration with Monona Terrace, is seeking sculptures that will engage visitors and complement the organic architecture of Wright's iconic curvilinear and glass-centric façade. A total of five sculptures will be selected by MAC, with four being displayed on the William T. Evjue Rooftop Gardens from May to October 2026. The chosen artists will receive $1,500 for loaning their work for a period of six months. Additionally, one sculpture will be selected for year-round exhibition on Olin Terrace from May 2026 to April 2027, with the artist receiving $2,600 for loaning their work for one year.

The selected sculptures will be displayed in a high-traffic public environment with unsupervised audiences. As such, proposed artworks must meet certain criteria including being original and created within the past five years. They must also be safe and appropriate for visitors of all ages, constructed using durable and safe components, maintenance-free throughout the exhibition period, able to withstand severe weather conditions such as wind, rain, heat, snow and frost, weigh under 200 pounds and easily lifted into raised garden beds, as well as able to be attached to a 48" diameter concrete pad.
The timeline for submissions is as follows: submissions are due by 11:59 PM CST on March 5th 2026; artists will be notified by March 23rd; sculpture installation will take place from May 4th-7th; rooftop sculpture removal will occur from November 2nd-5th; and Olin Terrace sculpture removal will take place from April 5th-8th 2027.
For full submission details, interested artists can refer to the Madison Arts Commission Call for Artists.
