Macedonia Baptist Church to be Repurposed as Coworking Space

LAKEWOOD, N.J. - Feb. 8, 2018 - Rezul -- All good things must come to an end, but every ending is also a new beginning… especially for the Macedonia Baptist Church property in Lakewood, NJ. Harvey Karen, President and CEO of Karen Realty Group, in conjunction with Tina Orth from Crossroads Realty, recently orchestrated the sale of a complex deal that sold the Macedonia Baptist Church, located at 143 John Street in Lakewood, NJ, to Cedar Holdings, LLC.

"Cedar Holdings would like to repurpose the property to be used as a coworking space," said Harvey Karen of Karen Realty Group. "However, a title issue resulted during the transaction as a portion of the land was donated to the Macedonia Baptist Church from the Bricksburg Land and Development Company. There was a clause in the deed from 1906 that stated if the building's use ever changed from that of a church, the land would have to be reverted back to Bricksburg Land and Development Company."

The issue was eventually remedied after Karen reached out to Raef Lawson from The Lakewood Country Club (successor to the Bricksburg Land and Development Company), who gave the church a release that allowed the transaction to move forward. Karen, because of his local knowledge, knew that the Lakewood Country Club had been successor in title to the Bricksburg Land and Development Company and was able to work with Raef Lawson to rectify the reverter clause.
