Rezul News/10717785
~ Long Beach, CA - On Saturday, November 8th, 2025, Houghton Park was filled with the sounds of live music and the smell of delicious food as the City of Long Beach hosted its annual Veterans Day Celebration. From noon to 4 p.m., attendees of all ages enjoyed a variety of offerings at this free, family-friendly event.
The celebration kicked off with a moving Veterans Recognition Ceremony, honoring those who have served and continue to serve in the United States military. Mayor Rex Richardson spoke about the importance of remembering and honoring the sacrifices made by veterans and active servicemembers. "Our freedoms were secured through courage, sacrifice, and service," he stated. "As we gather at Houghton Park to honor our veterans and active military servicemembers, we celebrate not only their bravery but also the enduring spirit of community that unites our city."
The event featured something for everyone, including a veterans and community resources fair with over 25 participating organizations. Attendees also enjoyed live entertainment from The Satin Dollz, a group known for their unique blend of song and dance from the 1940s Big Band Swing Era. Long Beach's favorite '80s and '90s tribute band, Knyght Ryder, also took to the stage to rock out with their energetic performance.

In addition to live music, there were plenty of other activities for attendees to enjoy. Food trucks offered a variety of tasty options while a beer garden provided refreshments for those looking to relax in between performances. A kids' zone kept younger attendees entertained with games and activities while adults could test their skills on a bootcamp-style obstacle course.
One highlight of the day was the flyovers by historic aircraft during the Veterans Recognition Ceremony. The ceremony also included a Presentation of Colors by members of Cabrillo High School's NJROTC Color Guard. This year's ceremony recognized several individuals and organizations for their outstanding service to the veterans' community, including Gus Orozco, who served as the "2025 Veterans Day Celebration Grand Marshal."
Ninth District Councilmember Dr. Joni Ricks-Oddie expressed her pride in the large number of veterans in North Long Beach and their continued dedication to serving and strengthening the community. "Their courage and commitment to something greater than themselves reflect the best of who we are," she said. "It's an honor to celebrate them today."
