Long Beach Notifies Residents of Nationwide CodeRED Cybersecurity Incident
Rezul News/10722416
Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach has been made aware of a cybersecurity incident that occurred on the OnSolve CodeRED platform, a third-party emergency notification service used by local governments across the country. This platform is known as "Alert Long Beach" in Long Beach and is used to send emergency alerts to residents through phone calls, emails, and text messages. However, the incident did not affect the city's own technology or infrastructure.
The attack was discovered after CodeRED was acquired by Crisis24, a risk management company. As part of the transition process, customer data from OnSolve CodeRED was transferred to the Crisis24 platform, now known as CodeRED by Crisis24. The breach occurred on the old OnSolve CodeRED platform and may have compromised user data nationwide, including names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, and passwords associated with CodeRED user profiles.
Crisis24 has assured that their current platform was not breached and remains secure. They also stated that personal information such as date of birth and social security numbers were not impacted as users do not provide this information to access the platform. However, they are cautioning Long Beach residents who may have reused their Alert Long Beach password for other personal or business accounts to change those passwords immediately.
