FORT MYERS, Fla. - Rezul -- Lee County Legal Aid Society legal director Blair DeMinico has been named a finalist for The Community Foundation's COO and Operations Leader of the Year Award. The award is presented in October as part of the Foundation's annual Board Leadership Awards and Top 30 Nonprofit CEOs of Southwest Florida.

DeMinico first joined the Lee County Legal Aid Society as a family law attorney in 2014. As legal director, she handles all human resources issues, works in tandem with the organization's executive director, Andrew J. Banyai, Esq., on complex grant applications and reports, manages a staff of 12 that includes five attorneys and their paralegals, an intake specialist, legal assistant and development director, in addition to maintaining her own active family law caseload.

She is responsible for case assignments within the office's four main departments: Family Law, Housing Law, Immigration for Children Law and the pro bono attorney assignments on the Lee Clerk's Self-Help Center Zoom sessions. Additionally, she mentors law students in their summer internships and oversees a group of about 24 law students who join remotely as volunteers with the Self-Help Center Zoom program.

Founded in 1967, Lee County Legal Aid Society is a private, nonprofit organization that provides no-cost civil legal aid to low-income residents of Lee County. The organization helps narrow the access to justice gap among those who cannot afford a private attorney in civil cases. In partnership with the Lee County Clerk of the Court, Lee County Legal Aid Society offers free, 20-minute "self-help" legal clinics that pair attorneys in private practice with those in need of legal services.
