Kuester Management Group Highlights Importance of Paying HOA Dues

In a new statement to the press, Kuester Management Group highlights the importance of HOA members paying their dues… and the consequences of non-payment.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Rezul -- Living in a homeowners association (HOA) community comes with numerous benefits, including access to such amenities as community pools, clubhouses, and parks. Additionally, the work of the HOA helps homeowners preserve property values, getting the most out of their real estate investment. Along with these benefits, however, there are also responsibilities. In a new statement to the press, Kuester Management Group highlights one of the most critical responsibilities: Paying regular dues.

"Depending on the HOA, members are typically expected to pay HOA assessments on a monthly or quarterly basis," comments Bryan Kuester, President of Kuester Management Group. "It's the responsibility of the Board not just to consistently collect dues, but to provide clarity about how these funds are used: Specifically, to maintain common properties like the pool, sidewalks, and green areas."

According to Kuester, HOA Boards can encourage the payment of dues by being transparent about how these assets are used, by creating easy online payment options, and by ensuring that dues are collected and enforced consistently throughout the HOA community.

Additionally, it may fall to the Board to leverage penalties for non-payment. "The Board has a few levers it can pull in order to encourage more consistent payments," Kuester says. "Delinquent homeowners may receive written warnings or small fees. Long-term non-payment may result in suspension from HOA amenities, from revoked voting privileges, or in worst-case scenarios, legal action."

Kuester concludes by encouraging HOA members to take their dues-paying responsibilities seriously. "These are not just arbitrary fees," he comments. "Paying your dues is a critical way to preserve the beauty and the value of the entire community, covering things like maintenance and upkeep for shared properties."
