Juneau: CBJ Facilities Closed Due to Snowfall, Road Conditions

~ Juneau, Alaska - The City and Borough of Juneau (CBJ) has announced that due to heavy snowfall and dangerous road conditions caused by freezing rain and snow, all CBJ facilities and services will either be closed or operating with limited services on Monday, December 29.

According to CBJ officials, snow removal crews have been working tirelessly around the clock to clear the roads. However, residents are advised to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary driving until the road conditions improve.

Several CBJ facilities will be closed on December 29, including all Juneau Public Libraries locations and Parks & Recreation facilities. This includes the Dimond Park Field House, Dimond Park Aquatic Center, Augustus G. Brown Pool, and Treadwell Arena. The Shéiyi X̱aat Hit Youth Shelter will remain open.

In addition, City Hall, the CBJ Permit Center, and all other CBJ offices will also be closed for the day. However, staff members will be working remotely and can be reached by phone or email.

For those who rely on public transportation, Capital Transit will be operating on winter routes. There will be no service up Cordova Street to Cedar Park on Douglas Island; passengers are advised to wait for the bus at the Breeze In stop. There will also be no service on Franklin or 4th street in Downtown Juneau; passengers should wait for the bus at the Downtown Transit Center stop. Delays are expected on all routes.

The CBJ would like to thank the community for their cooperation in staying off the roads whenever possible to allow crews to safely clear them. Residents are reminded to use caution when traveling and follow any instructions from local authorities during this time of inclement weather.
