Juneau: CBJ Avalanche Advisory Update – January 10 (6:45 p.m.)

~ Juneau, Alaska - As warmer temperatures and heavy rain continue to increase the risk of avalanches, the evacuation advisory remains in effect for residents in known slide paths. Emergency shelter is available at Centennial Hall and emergency response crews are on standby to quickly respond in the event of an avalanche.

To ensure safety, authorities are urging residents to limit travel in areas that are prone to avalanches. Thane Road also remains closed at the avalanche gates.

In a media briefing held today, January 10, representatives from CBJ, ADOT&PF, the National Weather Service, Tlingit & Haida and other partner agencies addressed the ongoing hazardous weather conditions and the avalanche evacuation advisory. The National Weather Service has also issued a local flood advisory.
