Jacksonville: JACKSONVILLE SELECTED AS A U.S. CIVIL RIGHTS TRAIL EXPANSION SITE

~ Jacksonville, FL - In an effort to honor and preserve the history of the Civil Rights Movement, the city of Jacksonville has announced plans for a new Civil Rights Trail. This expansion will include place-based markers, educational resources, and storytelling to connect visitors to the streets, neighborhoods, and institutions where significant events took place.
The Jacksonville Civil Rights Trail will pay tribute to both landmark events and everyday leaders who played a crucial role in advancing the movement. It aims to highlight the power of community action in creating lasting change.

Mayor Donna Deegan expressed her gratitude for being chosen as one of the locations for the U.S. Civil Rights Trail's 2026 expansion. She also acknowledged the hard work put in by everyone involved in making this possible.
The Trail will consist of 40 markers, with five being installed during Black History Month in February. The first marker will be placed in front of Mt. Ararat Baptist Church on Wednesday, February 25th at 1pm. Following this, three to five markers will be installed each month by the city.
This initiative is a significant step towards preserving and honoring Jacksonville's role in the Civil Rights Movement. It will provide visitors with a deeper understanding of this pivotal moment in history and its impact on the city.
