It's Fun at Funland: Idaho Falls Funland at the Zoo Reopens May 23
Rezul News/10734820
~ Idaho Falls Funland at the Zoo is set to reopen on May 23, 2026, after undergoing a full restoration. The historic amusement park, located at Tautphaus Park Zoo, will offer visitors a unique blend of vintage charm and renewed excitement.
The 2026 season marks the first full-scale operation of Funland since its restoration. All rides will be open, including classic favorites such as airplanes, a train ride for younger guests, a carousel, the Octopus, and the Ferris wheel. In addition to the rides, visitors can also enjoy the newly opened Log Hut café.
According to Idaho Falls Zoo Director David Pennock, Funland has always been a special place for families in Idaho Falls. The restoration honors its history while creating an experience that is ready for the future. Every detail has been carefully considered to ensure that visitors feel the care that has gone into restoring this beloved attraction.
The Log Hut café, a longtime landmark within Funland, will welcome both park guests and the general public without requiring ride tickets. It offers a vintage feel while providing a new place to gather, relax, and enjoy food and snacks during a visit to Tautphaus Park.

Funland will be open Monday through Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m., remaining open through Labor Day weekend. Ride tickets can be purchased at the Log Hut for $1 each with most rides requiring between two and four tickets. Visitors can also choose from other options such as a $20 bonus ticket book with 25 tickets or Funland Funbands which offer unlimited rides for one day at $20 for adults and $15 for children.
Originally developed in 1947 as an attraction connected to Tautphaus Park, Funland has undergone many changes over the years before being acquired by the City of Idaho Falls in 2019. Today it is managed in coordination with the Idaho Falls Zoo.
The reopening of Funland was made possible by significant community investment, including a generous contribution of approximately $145,000 from the CHC Foundation. This funding helped restore key infrastructure, such as the complete renovation of the Log Hut and foundational work under the Ferris wheel. The Funland Committee through the Tautphaus Park Zoological Society, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting the zoo, also provided support along with numerous donors committed to preserving this community landmark.

All rides at Funland have been professionally inspected, rebuilt, and refreshed by a licensed amusement ride company. Any necessary repairs were made and rides were repainted to ensure both safety and longevity while preserving their nostalgic character.
As summer approaches, Tautphaus Park Zoo will also offer enhanced seasonal programming such as keeper chats, exploration stations, and expanded animal viewing opportunities. Beginning Memorial Day through Labor Day, the zoo will also have extended hours on Tuesday evenings until 8 p.m., allowing visitors to enjoy both the zoo and Funland into the evening.
In addition to these events, there will be other summer activities at the zoo including Party for the Planet on May 30th. This event will feature reduced admission for guests who bring a canned food donation for the Community Food Basket. There will also be interactive activities, an adventure pass, ride ticket opportunities, and family-friendly challenges and prizes.
For youth ages 8-13, there will be summer camps offered at the zoo. Teens ages 14-17 can also participate in a Junior Zoo Crew program which provides hands-on experience in animal care, education, and conservation careers.
Looking ahead, zoo officials have plans for additional family-focused features at Funland as part of ongoing improvements to Tautphaus Park Zoo and its amenities.
