Interested parties meeting about upgrades at Columbia Regional Airport scheduled March 6

Rezul News/10728936
(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia Regional Airport (COU) is set to undergo some major improvements in the coming months, with plans to increase parking and reconstruct Airport Drive. Community members and travelers are invited to attend an interested parties meeting on Friday, March 6 from 9-11 a.m. at the airport located at 11400 S. Airport Drive.

The need for increased parking comes as a result of the airport's recent growth, with the addition of American Airlines, United Airlines, and Allegiant Airlines flights. In order to accommodate this increase in traffic, staff are planning to add approximately 350 paved parking spaces just north of 11200 Airport Drive. This new parking lot will provide easy access to the terminal facility and aligns with the 2025 Airport Master Plan.

The estimated cost for this project is $3 million and will be funded by the Transportation Sales Tax. Along with the new parking lot, there are also plans to reconstruct and overlay a 1.3-mile stretch of Airport Drive. This project will include one new crosswalk and exterior wayfinding signage. Currently, the asphalt pavement on Airport Drive is in poor condition with visible cracks, potholes, and uneven surfaces.

The reconstruction project for Airport Drive is estimated to cost $1.7 million and was included in the City's FY25 Capital Improvement Plan. The public is encouraged to leave comments on BeHeardCoMo through March 30.

All interested parties are welcome to attend any open meeting regarding these projects. For those who require accommodations related to disability, please contact 573-874-CITY (2489) or email [insert email address] as far in advance as possible in order for staff to make appropriate arrangements.

With these improvements, Columbia Regional Airport is poised to better serve its community and travelers alike.
