Interested parties meeting about road, restaurant upgrades at Columbia Regional Airport scheduled for March 10

(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia Regional Airport (COU) is considering the addition of a new restaurant and kitchen area in the terminal, as well as the reconstruction of the Terminal Building Loop Road. To gather feedback from interested parties, an open meeting has been scheduled for March 30 from 9-11 a.m. at the airport located at 11400 S. Airport Drive.
The idea for this project was first proposed in November of 2023 when the City entered into an agreement to lease 1,874.5 square feet of the airport terminal for a market and restaurant with counters on the airside. The plans also include a kitchen and landside concession area.
After successfully completing the first phase of the agreement, which included the grab and go concessions Tailwind Market, staff are now ready to move forward with construction on the kitchen and restaurant. Simon Oswald Architects has been hired to design the production kitchen at a cost of $38,100. The City will be responsible for funding the estimated $375,000 cost of construction.

Once completed, the restaurant area will offer a limited hot food menu to travelers passing through the airport. In addition to this project, staff are also proposing to reconstruct approximately 650 linear feet of Terminal Loop Road. This work will be done in phases to ensure continuous access to the terminal during construction. The project is expected to begin this summer.
The total estimated cost for both projects is $859,381 and will be funded by 90% from Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) funds and 10% from Transportation Sales Tax (TST).
Those interested in providing feedback or comments on these proposed changes can do so by attending any open meeting or by visiting BeHeard.CoMo.gov before March 30.
The public is encouraged to attend these meetings and accommodations can be made for those with disabilities by contacting 573-874-CITY (2489) or emailing create new email in advance. The City is committed to making necessary arrangements to ensure all individuals can participate in the decision-making process.
