Rezul News/10723455
~ Idaho Falls, ID- In the early hours of December 22nd, 2025, Idaho Falls Police Officers were called to an apartment in the 700 block of Cleveland Street for a reported domestic disturbance. According to the caller, a woman had texted them asking for help as her boyfriend was threatening her.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers were let into the apartment by a man and proceeded to speak with both him and the woman separately. The woman informed officers that her boyfriend had threatened her with a knife and had also choked her. The knife was found in plain view on a nearby piece of furniture. However, the man denied these allegations and claimed that he had only retrieved the knife for self-defense after stating he would harm the woman's father if he came over.

After being informed that he was under arrest, the man attempted to grab the knife and a physical struggle ensued between him and the officers. In response, one officer fired their service weapon, fatally striking the man. Despite attempts by officers and emergency medical services to save his life, he was declared deceased at the scene.

This taskforce is made up of investigators and professionals from various regional law enforcement agencies who are responsible for investigating police use of force incidents. The Rexburg Police Department is leading this particular investigation with assistance from other agencies. Once completed, it will be reviewed by the Prosecutor's Office to determine if the officer's actions were justified under the law.

At this time, both the name of the officer and the suspect are being withheld to allow for necessary interviews and next of kin notifications to take place. However, the Idaho Falls Police Department has stated that additional information, including body camera footage, will be released at a later date once the investigation and review process allow.

As a result of this incident, Cleveland Street is currently blocked off from Wabash Avenue to N Fanning Street. While there is no ongoing threat to the public, residents in the immediate area can expect a continued law enforcement presence throughout the day as EICIT conducts their investigation. They are advised to follow any directions given by officers on scene regarding access to and from the area.

This tragic event serves as a reminder of the dangers faced by law enforcement officers in their line of duty and highlights the importance of thorough investigations into use of force incidents. The Idaho Falls Police Department extends their condolences to all those affected by this incident and will continue to provide updates as they become available.
