Idaho Falls: IFFD Highlights Senior Fall Prevention in February Safety Message

~ The City of Idaho Falls has announced their selection for the next Fire Chief of the Idaho Falls Fire Department. After an extensive recruitment process, Johan Olson has been chosen for the position, pending confirmation from the City Council.
Mayor Lisa Burtenshaw expressed her confidence in Olson, stating that he brings a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to public service. With his background in leadership and previous experience with the Idaho Falls Fire Department, as well as other departments, Olson is well-equipped to lead the department into the future.
Currently serving as Deputy Fire Chief for the Grand Junction Fire Department, Olson oversees various operations and divisions while also engaging with the community through public outreach. He has also held positions as Assistant Fire Chief for the Buckley Fire Department and served on a Type 3 Incident Management Team for regional emergency response efforts.

Olson's career in firefighting began in 2007 with the Idaho Falls Fire Department, where he worked his way up from firefighter to captain and move-up battalion chief. During his time there, he was involved in specialty teams such as swift water rescue and hazardous materials operations. He also served as a state hazardous materials instructor and led the department's swift water team.
With a master's degree in emergency management and a bachelor's degree in fire administration, along with multiple associate degrees and professional certifications, Olson brings a strong educational background to his new role.
In response to his appointment, Olson expressed his honor at returning to Idaho Falls and serving as Fire Chief for a department that holds great significance to him. He looks forward to supporting firefighters, promoting safety and operational excellence, and continuing to build upon the department's positive relationships within the community.
The City Council will consider Olson's appointment at their meeting on Thursday, February 12 at 6:30 p.m. The City of Idaho Falls is confident that Johan Olson will be an excellent addition to their team as they continue to serve their community with dedication and professionalism.
