Idaho Falls: Be aware of scammers pretending to be fire department demanding money

Rezul News/10714686
IDAHO FALLS ~ Idaho Falls residents and business owners are being warned about a recent scam involving individuals posing as representatives of the Idaho Falls Fire Department. According to a press release from the department, these scammers are making phone calls and demanding money from unsuspecting victims.

The scammers are reportedly requesting photos of fire safety equipment and accusing the person or business of not following fire codes. They then demand immediate payment over the phone, claiming it is necessary to avoid code violations.

However, the Idaho Falls Fire Department wants to make it clear that they do not demand immediate payment for any code violations. They advise residents and business owners to verify any payment requests in person or by calling the person or organization directly.

In addition, the department has provided some tips for identifying and avoiding scam calls. These include being cautious about providing personal or financial information over the phone if you have not solicited the call, and being wary of any demands for immediate payment or requests to purchase prepaid credit cards.

It is important to note that the Idaho Falls Fire Department and City of Idaho Falls will never request payment over wire transfer. Any secure payments for development permits should be processed through your private portal on CityWorks.

Residents and business owners are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious calls to local authorities. By staying informed and following these precautions, we can all work together to prevent falling victim to these fraudulent activities.
