High Winds Causing Power Outages Across Idaho Falls
Rezul News/10729790
~ Idaho Falls is currently experiencing widespread power outages due to high winds sweeping through the city. The strong winds have caused trees, branches, and other debris to fall onto power lines and electrical equipment, resulting in disruptions to the power supply. According to Idaho Falls Power, these windy conditions are expected to continue for the next few days, potentially causing further impacts.
In response to the outages, crews from Idaho Falls Power and Idaho Falls Fiber are working diligently to restore service throughout the community. They are prioritizing areas that have been most affected by the outages and will continue their efforts until all customers have their power restored.
Interim General Manager of Idaho Falls Power, Stephen Boorman, emphasized the potential danger of these strong wind events. He stated that they can cause significant damage to trees and power infrastructure. Boorman also expressed his appreciation for the community's patience as crews work tirelessly to restore power.

Residents are advised to exercise caution during this time and while crews respond to outages. Some safety reminders include being careful around trees, power poles, and other tall objects that may be affected by strong winds. Drivers should also be patient and alert as debris in the roadways or emergency responses may cause unexpected delays.
In case of any object falling into power lines, it is crucial not to approach it as downed power lines can still be energized and extremely dangerous. When reporting any issues with power lines, it is essential to inform dispatch if there is a fire or simply an obstruction on the line. Residents should never attempt to cross downed power lines or walk/drive near them.
In case of emergencies such as fires or immediate safety hazards, residents are urged to call 911. Those experiencing outages are encouraged to report them through the Idaho Falls Power website or by calling dispatch at (208) 612-8430.
As crews work tirelessly to restore power across Idaho Falls, residents are reminded to stay safe and patient during this time. The community's cooperation and understanding are greatly appreciated as efforts continue to bring back normalcy to the affected areas.
