Entrepreneur and Author Justin Calabrese Champions Mental Health Awareness During May
Rezul News/10703828
Justin Calabrese, a successful entrepreneur and author, opens up about his personal battle with mental health and surviving a suicide attempt in 2013. Through storytelling and advocacy, he aims to normalize conversations around emotional well-being.
HARTFORD, Conn. - Rezul -- Author, entrepreneur, and business consultant Justin Calabrese is using Mental Health Awareness Month to speak candidly and courageously about an often-hidden issue: the lasting impact of mental health struggles and the power of survival.
In November 2013, Calabrese survived a suicide attempt that became a defining turning point in his life. At the time, he was silently battling depression, internal pressure, and unresolved trauma—challenges that are all too common, yet rarely discussed, especially among high-performing professionals.
"I didn't think I would ever see the light again," said Calabrese. "But I did—and now, I feel a responsibility to share my journey so others know that healing is possible."
Calabrese is using his platform this May to raise awareness, normalize conversations around mental health, and advocate for stronger emotional support systems in both personal and professional spaces. Through podcast appearances, blog articles, and candid social media storytelling, he's speaking directly to entrepreneurs, business leaders, and everyday individuals who might be suffering in silence.

His message is clear: success means nothing without mental health.
Over the years, Calabrese has developed a toolkit of daily coping strategies that include therapy, journaling, mindfulness practices, and maintaining strong personal relationships. He also champions workplace environments that emphasize emotional intelligence and psychological safety.
"Too many of us wear stress like a badge of honor," Calabrese notes. "But real strength is knowing when to ask for help—and making it okay for others to do the same."
As a survivor, Calabrese brings authenticity to a subject often buried beneath stigma. A Hartford native, he has built and advised over 150 businesses, authored several books on leadership and business management, and contributed to major publications such as the Huffington Post and NewsBreak. Yet, he says his greatest accomplishment is still waking up each day with the chance to help someone else feel seen.
"Mental health isn't weakness—it's part of the human experience. And it's time we stop whispering about it."
