Decatur Writer-Educator Loren A. Simon Joins the Dear Black Woman Anthology
Rezul News/10713789
A letter on self-mothering, Sankofa, and reclaiming voice; national release September 20, 2025
DECATUR, Ga. - Rezul -- Loren A. Simon, a Decatur-based writer and educator, is a contributing author in the forthcoming Dear Black Woman Anthology, a national collection of first-person letters by Black women to their younger selves and to one another. The book releases September 20, 2025.
Loren's letter is a guided conversation with her younger self—naming how early expectations and "shrinking" muted her voice, then showing how self-mothering restored it. She frames the work with Sankofa—going back to retrieve what was left behind—and describes learning to feel fully, set language for emotions, and choose joy without apology.
"Girl you are love in the flesh!" she writes, reclaiming identity from labels that never fit. The letter invites readers to move from surviving to soft landing, to mother the parts of themselves that needed more care, and to live from worth rather than approval.
