Columbia: Summer Lunch Program returns June 1, 2026

(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia, MO - The Summer Lunch Program is set to return on June 1 and will run until August 7, with the exception of June 19 and July 3. This program, which provides free meals to children and teens aged 18 and under, is a joint effort between Columbia Public Schools, Columbia Parks and Recreation, and Powerhouse.

According to the Public Health and Human Services (PHHS), lunch will be served at the Armory Sports and Recreation Center located at 701 E. Ash St. from noon to 1 p.m. starting on June 1 until July 31. In addition, Powerhouse of Columbia will also offer lunches at various locations throughout the city.

The meal schedule for each location may vary slightly from the Armory site. At Columbia Housing Authority's Stuart-Parker location on 225 Unity Dr., lunch will be served from noon to 12:30 p.m. with a snack following from 1:30-1:50 p.m. The same schedule applies for CHA Bear Creek on 1109 Elleta Blvd.

At Columbia Square on 1715 W. Worley St., lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to noon with a snack following from 12:50-1:10 p.m. Indian Hills Park on Aztec Blvd will have lunch available from noon to 12:30 p.m., followed by a snack from 1:30-1:50 p.m.

Welcome Inn on N. Providence will serve lunch from noon to 12:30 p.m., followed by a snack from 1:30-1:50 p.m. Demaret Drive on Demaret Dr. will have lunch available from 11 a.m. to noon with a snack following from 12:50-1:10 p.m.

Hanover Estates on Hanover Blvd, Bldg.7 will serve lunch from 11 a.m. to noon with a snack following from 12:50-1:10 p.m. Progressive Missionary Baptist Church on Banks Ave will have lunch available from 11 a.m. to noon.

The Summer Lunch Program is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture through an extension of the school lunch program. Its goal is to ensure that children have access to nutritious meals during the summer months when school is not in session.

For groups planning to bring a large number of children to the Armory site, it is recommended to call the WIC office at PHHS (573.873.7384) at least one day in advance between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. This will ensure that enough meals are available for everyone.
