Columbia: SAVE-A-LIFE: Naloxone education and distribution event to be hosted in Hallsville Wednesday, March 11, at 6 p.m.

(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ COLUMBIA, MO - Show Me Community Services of Hallsville is taking a proactive approach to addressing the opioid crisis by hosting a SAVE-A-LIFE event on Wednesday, March 11. The event, which will take place from 6-7 p.m. at 222 Elizabeth St., aims to educate and distribute Naloxone (also known as Narcan®) to members of the community.

In partnership with the Boone County Overdose Response Coalition and Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services, this program will provide information and training on how to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose and how to use and access naloxone. The event is open to the public and no registration is necessary.

Following the formal presentation, Public Health and Human Services staff will be available to provide additional information and brief training for those who are unable to attend. This includes both formal and informal training on how to use naloxone nasal spray, a medication that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.

SAVE-A-LIFE is part of a series of free monthly events that aim to educate communities on how they can help prevent overdose deaths from painkillers like fentanyl through the use of naloxone. As part of this event, attendees will have access to a personal supply of naloxone at no cost.

Funding for this event is made possible by contract DH240054280 between Public Health and Human Services and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. Additionally, thanks to a continued partnership with the Missouri Institute for Mental Health, Narcan® will be available at no cost for participants.
