Columbia Fire Department responds to residential structure fire, March 7

(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia Fire Department (CFD) responded to a residential structure fire on Saturday morning, March 7th. The incident occurred at approximately 8:14 a.m. in the 1500 block of Vandiver Drive.

Upon receiving the dispatch, CFD companies arrived at the scene within six minutes. They found heavy smoke emanating from a trailer and immediately began their search for residents and the source of the smoke. Firefighters entered the structure and discovered a large fire in the interior. They were able to successfully extinguish the flames within five minutes of their arrival.

Fortunately, the sole occupant who was present at the time of the fire had already evacuated before CFD's arrival and did not sustain any injuries. However, one cat was found inside with smoke inhalation injuries. Responders provided on-site treatment before Animal Control transported it to an animal hospital.

A total of six fire companies with 22 personnel responded to the scene to assist with controlling and extinguishing the fire.

After conducting an investigation into the origin and cause of the fire, Columbia Fire Marshals have determined it to be accidental. No further details have been released at this time.
