(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ On Saturday afternoon, a residential structure fire broke out in the 4900 block of Craydon Drive in Columbia, Missouri. The Columbia Fire Department (CFD) was immediately dispatched to the scene at 2:50 p.m.

Upon arrival, CFD companies found smoke and flames coming from the roof of a single-story home. Acting swiftly, firefighters deployed a hose line to contain the fire and prevent further damage to the interior of the house.

As additional companies arrived, they began searching the structure for any potential victims. Due to the extreme heat in the region, incident commanders upgraded the incident to a second alarm and called for more personnel. Throughout the operation, firefighters were rotated to designated locations to rest and rehydrate.

Thanks to their quick response and efficient teamwork, CFD was able to bring the situation under control within 20 minutes of their arrival. Fortunately, all occupants had already evacuated before CFD arrived and no one was injured in the fire.

The fire department worked diligently inside the structure to ensure that all flames were extinguished and that the occupants' belongings were preserved. In total, 11 fire companies, five chief officers, and one safety captain with a total of 42 personnel responded to this incident.

After conducting an investigation, the Columbia Fire Marshals Battalion determined that the cause of the fire was accidental and related to electrical issues with roof-mounted solar panels. The incident serves as a reminder for homeowners with solar panels to regularly check for any potential hazards.

The CFD urges residents to always be cautious when using electrical appliances or equipment and reminds them to have working smoke detectors installed in their homes. They also commend their personnel for their bravery and dedication in responding to this incident.
