Columbia: Closure of North Fifth Street south of Park Avenue, Dec. 10-31

(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia Housing Authority's contractor, Emery Sapp and Sons, will be closing North Fifth Street between Park Avenue and East Ash Street starting at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 10. This closure is necessary for the completion of water line connections for the East Park Avenue Apartments.

This is not the first time that road closures have been announced in the Park Avenue area for this project. Previous press releases on Oct. 3, Oct. 9, Oct. 27, and Nov. 4 have also informed the public about earlier closures.

Motorists are advised to use North Seventh Street as a detour route during this time. However, Go COMO's Orange and Gold routes will not be affected as they turn from Park Avenue onto North Fifth Street.

To ensure pedestrian safety, at least one of the two sidewalks adjacent to the work zone will remain open throughout the project. In cases where a sidewalk along North Fifth Street needs to be closed, signs will direct pedestrians to designated crossing points.

Weather permitting, crews expect to finish their work and reopen North Fifth Street by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 31. The Columbia Housing Authority urges everyone to plan their routes accordingly during this time of construction and road closures.
