Columbia: City to host meeting on Fire Station No. 5 replacement, March 18

Rezul News/10728908
(COLUMBIA, MO) ~ Columbia, MO - The City of Columbia has announced that they will be hosting an interested parties meeting to discuss the proposed replacement of Fire Station No. 5 located at 1400 Ballenger Lane. The meeting will take place on Wednesday, March 18 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in Room 1C of City Hall.

The current fire station, which was built in the 1970s, has been experiencing structural issues and is no longer able to adequately support the needs of the Columbia Fire Department. As the city's northeast corridor continues to grow, it has become apparent that updated facilities are necessary to maintain response coverage and support firefighters and staff.

According to current proposals, a new station will be constructed on the same site near Ballenger Lane and Ria Street. The concept plans include three apparatus bays that can accommodate the city's largest emergency vehicles, as well as living, office, training, and storage areas. The design will prioritize energy- and water-efficient systems, use regionally sourced and recycled materials when possible, and incorporate safety features to ensure compatibility with the surrounding neighborhood.
