Colorado Springs: Two blocks of Tejon Street to get its new trees

~ Colorado Springs - Tejon Street, a popular downtown area, will undergo major changes as part of the Tejon Street Revitalization Project. Starting Monday, November 17, the street will be closed to vehicular traffic from Colorado Avenue to Kiowa Street in order to install new trees.

According to city officials, this closure is necessary for the safety of workers and pedestrians during the tree installation process. However, sidewalks and dining patios will remain open for business during construction.

The closure will be divided into two blocks. The first block, from Colorado Avenue to Pikes Peak Avenue, is expected to be closed for up to two weeks. Once the trees are installed, this block will reopen to vehicles and diagonal parking will also be available.

The second block, from Pikes Peak Avenue to Kiowa Street, is scheduled to receive its trees starting on December 1. More information about the reopening of this block will be provided soon.

In order to accommodate for the street closure, parking will be available on nearby side streets and at three City parking garages. Businesses in Blocks 1 and 2 have also been given free parking vouchers worth two hours of free parking in these garages for their customers.

Motorists should also take note that eastbound and westbound Pikes Peak Avenue at Tejon Street may experience intermittent closures as work wraps up at "Busy Corner." However, one direction will always remain open and electronic signage will guide drivers accordingly.

Despite these temporary inconveniences, Tejon Street has continued to host events such as the "In their Honor Veterans Day Parade" on November 8 and will welcome the Festival of Lights Parade on December 6.
