Colorado Springs parks department launches 2027 Discover COS Calendar Photo Contest
Rezul News/10740712
~ Colorado Springs, CO - The Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department has announced the launch of their 14th annual Discover COS Calendar Photo Contest. Amateur and professional photographers are invited to submit their best shots capturing the beauty, recreation, and unique character of the city's parks, trails, and open spaces.
The Discover COS Calendar aims to celebrate the landscapes, wildlife, and experiences that make Colorado Springs' park system special while highlighting the important role that parks and recreation play in the community. "We're excited to see Colorado Springs through the eyes of our community once again," said Skyler Rorabaugh, director of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services. "Every year, this contest showcases the incredible talent of local photographers while celebrating the places that connect us to nature, recreation, and one another."
Unlike previous years where a specific theme was chosen for submissions, this year's calendar invites photographers to capture images that showcase the beauty, character, and experiences found throughout Colorado Springs' parks. From stunning sunrises and wildlife encounters to families enjoying neighborhood parks and memorable community moments - all photographs that tell the story of recreation in Colorado Springs are welcome.

Submissions will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Friday, September 4th, 2026. Each photographer is allowed to submit up to five photographs. Eligible entries must be taken at any City of Colorado Springs park, trail or open space managed by Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services. Photographers are especially encouraged to capture images from popular destinations such as Red Rock Canyon Open Space, North Cheyenne Cañon Park, The Manitou Incline, Legacy Loop, Memorial Park, Quail Lake Park and Monument Valley Park.
Winning photographs will be selected based on artistic quality, originality, technical excellence as well as how well they represent Colorado Springs' parks system. Selected photographers will be recognized in a ceremony this fall.
Proceeds from the sales of the 2027 Discover COS Calendar will go towards tree planting at Snyder Quarry in Black Canyon Open Space, helping to restore native habitat at the City's new 163-acre ecological restoration site.
Photographers can submit their entries via email or by mail/in person to the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department. Complete contest rules, submission requirements, waiver forms and additional information can be found on the City's website at ColoradoSprings.gov/DiscoverCOS. The deadline for submissions is September 4th, 2026. Don't miss this opportunity to showcase your talent and contribute to a great cause!
