Colorado Springs: Motorcycle driver dies following June 1 crash at East Fillmore Street and North Prospect Street

~ On the morning of June 1, 2026, a tragic vehicle-versus-motorcycle collision occurred at the intersection of East Fillmore Street and North Prospect Street in Colorado Springs. The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) responded to the scene at approximately 8:00 a.m. after receiving a report of the incident.

According to CSPD, a vehicle traveling eastbound on Fillmore Street attempted an unprotected left turn into a business parking lot when it was struck by a westbound motorcycle. The driver of the vehicle was evaluated on scene and reported no injuries. They were released after cooperating with investigators.

Unfortunately, the motorcycle operator did not survive the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The CSPD Major Crash Team was activated and responded to conduct a detailed investigation due to the nature of the crash. As of now, the cause of the collision is still under investigation.

The El Paso County Coroner's Office notified CSPD on June 2 that the motorcycle operator has been identified as 23-year-old Dawson Debolt. This marks the 25th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs for 2026, compared to 16 at this time last year. In total, there have been 63 traffic-related fatalities in Colorado Springs over the past year.

The investigation into this tragic incident is ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact CSPD at 719-444-7000 or remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 719-634-STOP (7867). The CSPD is asking for any assistance that could aid in their investigation.
