Colorado Springs: CSPD K9 Roam to Be Discharged from Veterinary Hospital; Community and Media Invited to Share Support as He Makes His Way Home

Rezul News/10718005
~ On Wednesday, October 15, 2025, a brave K9 officer of the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) named Roam was gravely injured while attempting to apprehend a suspect. The incident occurred during a routine patrol in the city's Specialized Enforcement Division.

Roam, a highly trained German Shepherd, sustained severe injuries and was immediately rushed to Animal ER Care for emergency treatment. After several hours of surgery and a difficult decision to amputate his left hind leg, Roam's condition stabilized. He spent the next few days recovering at the veterinary hospital under the care of dedicated veterinarians, surgeons, nurses, and staff.

Thanks to their exceptional skill and compassion, Roam's life was saved. The CSPD extends its sincere gratitude to everyone involved in his care.

Tomorrow, October 18, 2025, Roam will be discharged from the veterinary hospital. To honor his bravery and resilience, he will be escorted by a small contingent of uniformed CSPD personnel in marked police vehicles. The procession will pass by Roam's assigned division on Fountain Boulevard before heading towards Powers Boulevard.

The community and media are invited to line the route along Fountain Boulevard from Academy Park Loop to Powers Boulevard at 11:00 AM on Saturday. This is an opportunity for everyone to show their support for Roam as he makes his way back home with his handler. The procession is not an emergency escort and will not impact traffic in the area.

CSPD reminds everyone not to park on Fountain Boulevard or Academy Boulevard but instead find parking elsewhere and stand on the sidewalk. A map has been provided with details on where community members and media can stand along the route.

Following the procession, CSPD Public Communication Specialist Caitlin Ford will be available for a brief interview outside of the CSPD Sand Creek Substation after 20 minutes. This is an opportunity for media members to get more information about Roam's condition and recovery.

Roam's bravery and dedication to his duty have not gone unnoticed, and the CSPD is grateful for the outpouring of support from the community. Let us all come together to show our appreciation for this courageous K9 officer.
