Colorado Springs: City to observe Independence Day

~ As the nation prepares to celebrate Independence Day, the City of Colorado Springs has announced that several administrative offices and agencies will be closed on Friday, July 4. This includes the City Administration Building, City Clerk, City Hall, Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum, Deerfield Hills, Hillside, Meadows Park, and Westside community centers, Gold Camp Road to North Cheyenne Cañon, Mountain Metropolitan Transit (Administrative offices), Municipal Court, Palmer Park Roads, Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services Administrative Building, Sales Tax Office, Sertich Ice Center, Sports Office and Therapeutic Recreation Programs.
However, some City facilities will remain open with adjusted hours. These include city fountains, pools and spray grounds; Garden of the Gods Park (which will close at 8 p.m.); Patty Jewett Golf Course; Pikes Peak – America's Mountain (weather permitting); Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site; Starsmore Visitor and Nature Center; and Valley Hi Golf Course.
One of the highlights of Independence Day celebrations in Colorado Springs is the Family Fourth event at Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., visitors can enjoy live music performances, reenactments from notable historical figures, carnival games, wagon rides and a patriotic kids' parade with prizes for best decorations. Food and beverages will also be available for purchase. Admission to the event is $8 for adults, $5 for seniors (65+), and $4 for children (3-17). Children ages 2 and under can enter for free while active-duty military members with an ID can avail discounts.

For those looking to end their Fourth of July celebrations with a bang, the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation and the Colorado Springs Philharmonic have organized a Star-Spangled Symphony concert followed by fireworks across the city. Tickets for this event at Ford Amphitheater are already sold out but for those who have secured a ticket, visit FordAmphitheatre.live for "Know Before You Go" details. The concert will also be broadcasted on local radio stations (Sunny 106.3 FM - Y96.9 - KCME 88.7 FM) at approximately 9:15 PM (weather dependent) in conjunction with the fireworks show.
For those unable to attend the concert, they can still catch the fireworks display across the city by visiting COS4thofJuly.org for complete details, including a full schedule of events, fireworks map, and weather updates.
