~ Spokane, WA - The City of Spokane has announced the opening of a new shelter for unhoused LGBTQIA+ community members in partnership with North Hill Christian Church and Jewels Helping Hands. The shelter, named "The Aurora Center," will be located at 4620 N Post St and will offer both daytime and nighttime services. It will have 15 emergency overnight beds available.
The City has collaborated with Providence, the Center for Growth and Empowerment, and Community, Advocacy and Treatment Spokane to provide wraparound services at the site. These services include medical care, substance use disorder treatment, and housing placement. The main goal of this shelter is to provide short-term stabilization and connect guests with positive housing outcomes.
Reverend Chris Snow of North Hill Christian Church expressed excitement about making their space available to community members in need. He also shared their commitment to following God's calling to be a welcoming community where everyone is accepted and has the opportunity to share their gifts.

To give neighbors an opportunity to learn more about the Aurora Center, an open house will be held at North Hill Christian Church on March 5 from 4-5 p.m. This event will provide an overview of how the shelter will operate, information about safety and supervision, and a chance to meet Jewels Helping Hands staff. A Q&A session will also be held for community members.
