City of Long Beach Begins Major Improvements at Davies Boat Launch Facility
Rezul News/10733892
Long Beach, CA ~ The Davies Boat Ramp, a popular public launch ramp in Long Beach, is undergoing a major renovation by the City's Department of Public Works. This project, which began on Monday, April 27, 2026, aims to modernize the 60-year-old facility and improve safety, accessibility, and overall functionality for the thousands of residents and visitors who utilize it each year.
According to Mayor Rex Richardson, this investment in the Davies Boat Ramp is crucial in ensuring that Long Beach's waterfront remains accessible to everyone. He also noted that these upgrades will strengthen the region's access point to the water and prepare for the increased coastal use during the upcoming LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The planned improvements for the Davies Boat Ramp include a new launch ramp with defined lanes, renovated parking lot pavement, upgraded lighting and electrical distribution system, and a replacement of the restroom building. Additionally, there will be new trash enclosures, a boat washing station, fish cleaning station, and electric vehicle charging stations added to enhance the overall experience for users.

Councilwoman Kristina Duggan from the Third District emphasized that this renovation is essential in protecting access to Long Beach's coastline for years to come. She also acknowledged that the Davies Boat Ramp is an important public resource for both residents and regional visitors.
During construction, which is expected to be completed by early 2027, the boat launch ramp, restroom facilities, and parking lot will be closed. Boaters are advised to make alternative arrangements during this time. The Department of Parks Recreation and Marine manages five public launch ramps in Long Beach with Davies being one of the most utilized facilities serving nearly 28,000 boaters in 2025.
Funding for this project comes from various sources including Tidelands and Marina funds as well as support from California Department of Parks and Recreation Division of Boating and Waterways. Public Works Director Joshua Hickman expressed their commitment to maintaining safe and accessible public spaces for residents and visitors. He also stated that revitalizing the high-use launch ramp, parking, and restrooms meets modern quality standards and supports continued enjoyment of the waterfront.
