City of Colorado Springs invites public input on proposed sign code update
Rezul News/10717984
~ The City of Colorado Springs is seeking input from its residents on proposed updates to the City's sign regulations. The Sign Ordinance Update aims to modernize local sign standards in accordance with current technology, industry practices, and federal requirements while also supporting the community's shared goals for safety, economic vitality, and visual character.
A community meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 29 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department Hearing Room located at 2880 International Circle. City officials will be present to explain the proposed changes, address any questions or concerns, and gather feedback from the public.
The current sign code was last updated in 2012 and since then, advancements in technology and materials have significantly changed how businesses and organizations visually communicate. The proposed Sign Ordinance update will align with content-neutral sign regulations and the City's strategic priorities of economic vitality and infrastructure in order to promote a thriving community. It will also improve clarity and consistency across the Unified Development Code (UDC), which serves as a comprehensive guide for land use, design, and development standards.

Some key goals of the update include reformatting the ordinance to align with development standards, implementing criteria for coordinated sign plans on unique properties, refining rules for electronic message centers, and enhancing maintenance and upkeep requirements. These updates are expected to not only support public safety but also improve the overall appearance of the City.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed about this project by visiting ColoradoSprings.gov/SignOrdinanceUpdate. The City's website will provide updates on the progress of this initiative.
