City of Bloomington Launches 2026 Sustainable Neighborhoods Grant
Rezul News/10740524
~ The City of Bloomington is offering a new opportunity for residents to make a positive impact on their neighborhoods and the environment. The 2026 Sustainable Neighborhoods Grant is now open for applications, providing funding for small-scale projects that align with the city's Climate Action Plan.
Jolie Perry, the Sustainability Program Coordinator, expressed the city's commitment to supporting community-driven climate action initiatives. "We want to provide residents with the financial means to take that first step towards a more sustainable future," she stated. "This grant program is designed to offer resources and support for residents to address the unique needs of their neighborhood."
To be eligible for the grant, a project team of at least four Bloomington residents must apply, with a designated project liaison. The team can receive up to $1,000 in funding for projects that promote climate resilience or sustainability in their area. They may also partner with a local organization to apply on their behalf.
Some examples of projects that may qualify for the Sustainable Neighborhoods Grant include building a community garden, installing rain gardens to reduce stormwater runoff, planting native pollinator gardens or trees, and implementing organic waste collection boxes for composting. Other eligible projects include improving energy efficiency in neighborhood assets, installing solar panels on communal buildings, purchasing electric-powered lawn equipment for neighborhood upkeep, and hosting educational campaigns on sustainable topics.

Applications must include a detailed project description with a budget and timeline, as well as letters of commitment from all involved individuals or organizations. Projects must be completed within one year and require follow-up reporting.
The grant is open to projects within Bloomington city limits and does not require team members to live in a specific neighborhood or association. However, they must demonstrate that all members live in close proximity to the project and will share its benefits among neighboring residents.
Interested parties can submit applications on a rolling basis until November 15th, 2026 or until the $10,000 budget is fully allocated. The complete guidelines and application for the Sustainable Neighborhoods Grant can be found online at bloomington.in.gov/sustainability/neighborhood-grants. This is an excellent opportunity for residents to make a positive impact on their community and contribute to the city's efforts towards a more sustainable future.
