SPOKANE, Wash. ~ Spokane City Council Member Michael Cathcart has been unanimously chosen as the incoming Chair of the Spokane Regional Health District (SRHD) Board of Health. The decision was made by the board on Tuesday, with Cathcart's one-year term set to begin on January 1, 2026.
Cathcart, who currently serves as Vice Chair, has been an active member of the board since 2024. In a statement, he expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead the board and work alongside his fellow members and staff to continue moving SRHD forward.
With uncertain financial times ahead, Cathcart emphasized the need for disciplined and thoughtful fiscal stewardship while prioritizing essential public health services for the community. He also highlighted the urgency of addressing the fentanyl crisis through both treatment and prevention efforts.
