Boston: The First and Last Faces of the School Day

Rezul News/10731094
~ As the rain poured down and the chilly afternoon set in, students at Boston schools were greeted by the familiar sight of crossing guards. These dedicated individuals are often the first people students see when arriving at school and the last when heading home. And now, thanks to a recent resolution adopted by the Council, their hard work will not go unnoticed.

Councilor Pepén proposed the resolution, which designates March 25th as Crossing Guard Appreciation Day in the City of Boston. This day will serve as a special recognition for the vital role that crossing guards play in keeping children, families, and educators safe on their daily commutes.

The resolution acknowledges that crossing guards put themselves in harm's way to ensure safe routes to school and that their presence provides both security and reassurance to students every day. It also highlights the current shortage of crossing guards in Boston, making it even more important to support and recognize those who are currently working tirelessly to keep our children safe.

In addition, the resolution notes the Commonwealth of Massachusetts' annual campaign encouraging residents to thank and uplift these essential workers. By formally honoring the dedication of crossing guards across Boston, the Council is recognizing their invaluable contributions to student safety and community well-being.
