~ Beacon Hill will be bustling with two exciting events in the upcoming weeks, encouraging attendees to ditch their cars and opt for alternative modes of transportation. The Girls on the Run Road Race and Fall Celebration will take place on Sunday, November 16, 2025, followed by the Camp Harbor View 5K on Saturday, November 22, 2025.
Organized by Girls on the Run, a non-profit organization that promotes physical activity and self-confidence in young girls, the road race will kick off at 9:00AM on Charles Street. Participants will head south towards Boylston Street before turning onto Arlington Street and then Commonwealth Avenue. The route will continue under Massachusetts Avenue before looping back to Charlesgate West and returning to Commonwealth Avenue. The race will conclude at the Center Gate.
To accommodate these events, parking restrictions will be in place throughout Sunday on Beacon Street (both sides from Charles Street to Spruce Street), Beacon Street (north side from Charles Street to Arlington Street), Boylston Street (north side from Arlington Street to Charles Street), and Charles Street (both sides from Boylston Street to Beacon Street).

The following weekend, on Saturday, November 22nd, runners will gather for the annual Camp Harbor View 5K. Starting at Charles Street between the Public Garden and Boston Common, participants will take a left onto Beacon Street before turning onto Arlington Street and then Commonwealth Avenue outbound. After reaching Charlesgate West, they will turn around and return via Commonwealth Avenue inbound.
Similar parking restrictions will be in place throughout Saturday on Arlington street (both sides from Beacon street to Commonwealth Avenue inbound), Beacon street (south side from Charles street to Arlington street), and Charles street (both sides from Boylston street to Beacon street).
In other news for Roslindale residents, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation has announced that the Canterbury Street Bridge will be closed for vehicular traffic starting Friday, September 12th at 9:00PM. The closure comes after a recent bridge inspection revealed necessary repairs. Pedestrian access will still be available, but drivers are advised to follow the detour signage in place. The primary detour route will utilize Hyde Park Avenue, Cummins Highway, Rowe Street, Brown Avenue, and Seymour Street. Eastbound traffic will be directed to Seymour Street, while westbound traffic will be rerouted through Hyde Park Avenue.

Drivers traveling through the affected areas should expect delays and reduce their speed while using caution. The closure will remain in effect until further notice.
As always, residents and visitors are encouraged to take advantage of alternative modes of transportation such as walking, biking, or utilizing public transit. Information on Bluebikes, the regional bike share service, can be found on their website and information on the MBTA can be found online. The MBTA also advises riders to purchase round-trip tickets for a faster return trip. Walking is also a great way to move around and explore these vibrant neighborhoods.
